2019 Hikes

IAC 2019 hikes

2019 Idaho Alpine Hikes

May 12, 2019, Sat.: Craters of the Moon National Monument. An old stand-bye for first of the season hiking. Once there we can decide either to hike out to Echo Crater (round trip approx. 7 miles) or take the shorter Tree Molds Trail hike (round trip approx. 3.5 miles). Both hikes are over level trails. On the way there, if there is water flowing in the Big Lost River, we may side trip to see the Big Lost River Canyon before continuing to Craters (or we could also take a quick look on our return). Please contact Samuel Pole at 208-520-3630 or by email sbploe@cableone.net prior to the trip. Meet at the west-side Walmart garden center at 8 am and do not forget water, snacks/lunch and suitable clothing.

May 25, 2019, Sat.: Big Southern Butte. Another early season hike while waiting for the mountain snow to melt. The hike follows an access road up the primary drainage of the butte. There are several steeper stretches but should not be a problem to anyone comfortable hiking. The elevation gain is approx. 1800 feet with great 360 degree views of the Snake River Plain from the summit. Should road conditions appear questionable, we may hike Cedar Butte just west of Atomic City. Please contact Samuel Pole at 208-520-3630 or by email sbpole@cableone.net prior to the trip. Meet at the west-side Walmart garden center at 8 am and do not forget water, snacks/lunch and suitable clothing.
