Aug. 5 , 2017: Day hike/ Hurricane Pass in the Tetons.
This is a strenuous hike of 16 plus miles roundtrip into the heart of the Tetons and overlooking Cascade Canyon in Grand Teton National Park. The elevation gain is about 3,400 feet. Contact Sam Pole at 520-3630 prior to the hike. Depart 7:30 am from the Fred Meyer/McDonald’s parking lot.

August 26 (Sat.): Day Hike Salamander Lakes.
This is a 7.3 mile loop trail, with an elevation gain of 1,400 feet. This is a moderate trail in the Centennial Mountain. The drive is 49 miles north of Idaho Falls on Interstate 15, take the Dubois exit and head east. Stay on the main road and head northeast 27.4 miles to Kilgore. At the T-intersection at 28.3 miles beyond Kilgore, turn left (west) and drive .5 mile. Turn right (north) on Forest Road 026 and drive 4.3 miles to where the road splits. Here Road 026 goes both straight ahead and to the left. Keep straight ahead and go 1.5 miles to the junction with Road 027, just past Cottonwood Creek. At the junction, road 027 turns off to the right. Take the left branch, which is still Road 026 and go .8 mile to Road 029, Turn right on 029 and go about 2 more miles to the trailhead at the end of the road. The trailhead is on the right, but the parking area is just before it on the left. The trail up Trail Creek to miniature Salamander Lake goes into the heart of the Centennial Range along the Idaho-Montana border east of I-15. Please call Susan McKinley at 520-3784 prior to the hike. We are meeting at the west side Wal Mart at 8:00 a.m. in front of the garden center to depart.

Sept. 9, 2017: Devil’s Stairs.
This is about 8 miles RT, or longer if we want to go to Alaska Basin. There is a steep ascent of about 1000’ in a mile or so. Please call or text Sue Braastad at 208-881-4354 prior to the hike. Depart 7:30 am from the Fred Meyer/McDonald’s parking lot.

Sept. 23, 2017: Overnight: 2 nights/ Fish Pole Lake.
It is 1.8 miles to Iron Bog Lake and another mile to Fish Pole Lake where camp will be. Should anyone wish to camp at Iron Bog Lake, that will be ok. Overnight gear is required (cooking essentials, food, tent, sleeping bag, air mattress, etc.). Fishing and exploring will be the focus of this outing. Or if you wish to simply relax and read a book in a beautiful setting, do so. Please call Sam Pole at 520-3630 prior to the trip. We will leave from the west Wal-Mart parking lot in front of the garden center at noon Friday Sept. 23 . We will return late Sunday the 24.
